Strelitzia reginae, also known as the Bird-of-paradise or Queen's Bird-of-Paradise, is a striking plant native to South Africa. Its unique flower stalk rises to several feet and features a sheath at the top from which up to six vibrant orange or yellow blossoms emerge. Each flower has a dark blue "tongue" and, together with the plant's banana-like evergreen leaves, forms substantial clumps. Strelitzia reginae is easy to grow in zone 10 and greenhouse environments and is a popular ornamental plant in Southern California and beyond. It produces no airborne pollen, making it a great option for those with allergies. Whether placed in a garden or used in floral arrangements, this plant's remarkable beauty is sure to amaze.
