If you're looking for a stunning, silvery addition to your landscape, look no further than the Sophora tomentosa, also known as the Necklacepod or Yellow Necklacepod. This pantropical shrub or small tree reaches heights of 4-10 feet and features compound leaves and pendulous clusters of pale yellow flowers up to 6 inches long. The plant's most distinctive feature, however, is its string of seed pods that form after the flowers fade, resembling a necklace. It's a popular choice for xeriscaping in Florida, but its natural range is limited to coastal counties in the state, as well as Texas and the Caribbean. Bees, butterflies, and even hummingbirds are attracted to the nectar-rich blooms, making this a great choice for pollinator gardens. It's worth noting that the plant's inedible pods have been used to make fish poisons and as insect repellents in some parts of the world. Plant this showstopper in a sunny, coastal location for best results.
