Sophora macrocarpa Mayo is a small tree that is native to central and southern continental Chile. Also known as Mayú, it belongs to the Fabaceae family, and it's a species of flowering tree or shrub that can grow up to 3 meters in height. Mayo is an evergreen tree with long slender branches and dark green leaves that grow up to 15cm. The tree produces hanging clusters of deep yellow flowers, which bloom from August to December. Mayo thrives in sunny locations with acidic to slightly alkaline soil and regular, well-drained irrigation. This spectacular evergreen shrub is hardy in temperatures down to -5 / -10ºC, making it an excellent choice for gardens with varying climates. The hanging clusters of deep yellow flowers are truly amazing, making this small tree a wonderful addition to any garden or landscape.
