Introducing the Sinocalycanthus chinensis - also known as the Chinese Sweetshrub or Chinese Wax Shrub, this beautiful deciduous shrub is native to China and closely related to the Carolina allspice. With a dense rounded growth habit and glossy medium-green leaves, this shrub boasts showy camellia-like flowers with blush-pink to white outer tepals, yellow inner tepals with maroon markings, and a mounded ring of yellow stamens blooming through late spring. Perfect for specimen or group planting in shrub borders or wild areas, this medium maintenance shrub is easily grown in average, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Be sure to keep its soil moist and rich in acidic loam, as this shrub prefers to be kept away from alkaline soils. Enjoy the stunning display of the Sinocalycanthus chinensis in full bloom from April to June.
