Rudbeckia fulgida, also known as Orange Coneflower and Showy Coneflower, is a North American native perennial that grows up to 3 ft tall. It features bright yellow daisy-like composite flower heads borne singly or in corymbiform arrays. The stems are hairy, ridged, and dark green, while the leaves have blades that are lanceolate to broadly ovate or elliptic in shape and basal leaves are petiolate. This herbaceous plant spreads by stoloniferous stems and seed, with its ripe seeds attracting winter finches. Recommended for vernalization, it has seven varieties, with Goldsturm and Little Goldstar receiving the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. This brightly colored plant with beautifully shaped flower heads is perfect for garden borders or as cut flowers.
