Scarification: Pour boiling water over seed , let cool in water for 24 hours

Other: Soaking in either 1% sodium hypochlorite (household bleach) 7 days, or concentrated sulfuric acid 20-60 mins., then 3 months warm (diurnal fluctuation from 68° to 86°F) and 3 months cold stratification may improve germination.

The fruit of this deciduous shrub is juicy and boasts a very good flavor. Growing up to 1.8 meters (6 feet) tall, Salmonberry is hardy to zone 5 and not frost tender. It flowers in April and seeds ripen from June to July. Hermaphrodite flowers attract pollinating insects. This versatile plant can grow in a range of soils, from light sandy to heavy clay, and can survive in very acidic soils. Salmonberry prefers moist soil and can grow in semi-shade or no shade.
