Introducing Pinus sylvestris, also known as the Scots Pine, the only pine tree native to northern Europe. With its blue-green leaves and orange-red bark, this tree is easily identified and highly valued in forestry. Its wood is commonly used for pulp and sawn timber products. The Scots Pine has a wide distribution range, from Ireland to eastern Siberia and from the Arctic Circle to the Caucasus Mountains. It can grow at sea level and at high altitudes up to 2,600m. This tree has been widely cultivated and was among the first trees introduced to North America in the early 1600s. Learn more about the Scots Pine at plants.usda.gov.
