The Pinus pinea, also known as the Italian Stone Pine or Umbrella Pine, is a species of pine that is native to Southern Europe, North Africa, and the Levant in the Mediterranean region. This tree has been used for its edible pine nuts since prehistoric times and is also widely used as a horticultural tree. With flat-topped and asymmetrical shapes and bright green stiff needles, the Pinus pinea is a beautiful addition to any garden or park. The seeds are also edible and are often added to ice cream, cakes, puddings, and much more. This tree has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. Not to be confused with the Japanese Umbrella-pine, the Pinus pinea is a must-have for those looking to add a touch of the Mediterranean to their homes.
