Introducing Pinus elliottii, commonly known as the Slash Pine, a native tree to the southeastern region of the United States. This fast-growing tree thrives in humid, moist soil environments, known as "slashes." The tree's deep green needles and large, glossy red-brown cones are iconic of the Southeast and are a source of pulp, timber, rosin, and turpentine. The tree reaches heights of up to 98 feet and has a lifespan of up to 200 years. Pinus elliottii is distinguished from other pine trees by its longer needles and larger cones. A major component of three forest cover types, this tree is widely grown in tree plantations and commonly used in horticulture.
