Introducing the Picea pungens var. glauca Blue Spruce - a stunning and popular ornamental tree. This variety, sourced from Kaibab, showcases an intense and beautiful blue color. A high percentage of the seedlings will exhibit the lovely blue needles that make this tree so unique. However, our Majestic seed source is the only one we sell that has an even better blue color than Kaibab.

Native to western North America, this species is commonly found in mountain valleys along streamsides. While it thrives at high altitudes, it is not found at the alpine tree-line like its counterpart, the Engelmann Spruce. The Blue Spruce is known for its deeply penetrating root system, which firmly anchors the tree against winds.

Growing up to 30 meters tall with a conic crown in young trees, this medium-sized evergreen tree boasts needle-like leaves that vary from a dull gray-green to a bright glaucous blue. Its specific epithet, pungens, refers to the sharply pointed leaves. The seed cones are slender cylindrical and pendulous, maturing into a pale brown color.

Ideal for colder, drier areas, the Blue Spruce prefers abundant moisture at its roots. It can tolerate poor peaty soils but thrives in deep, moist soil. This long-lived but slow-growing tree is highly resistant to atmospheric pollution and wind exposure to some degree.

We offer the Picea pungens var. glauca Blue Spruce for its remarkable blue color and striking appearance. Whether you're looking to enhance your landscape or provide cut Christmas trees, this variety is a fantastic choice. This tree is a symbol of Utah and Colorado, and with its durability and beauty, it adds a touch of majesty to any environment.
