If you're looking for a stunning and unique addition to your garden, consider the Picea jezoensis - also known as the Yeddo Spruce or Jezo Spruce. This evergreen tree is native to northeast Asia, growing up to 50 meters tall with a trunk diameter of up to 2 meters. Its bark is thin and scaly, and its crown is broad conic. Its needle-like leaves are flattened in cross-section, dark green above with no stomata, and blue-white to white below with two dense bands of stomata. The cones are slender cylindrical, opening to be 3 cm across and having thin, flexible scales. The seeds are black and have a pale brown wing. This tree is perfect for cold, humid temperate rain forests and is found no more than 400 km away from the Pacific Ocean. It prefers moist, acidic, and neutral soil types and cannot grow in the shade or withstand atmospheric pollution. You can even use this tree for timber and paper production or as a material for the Ainu string instrument called tonkori. Get your own Picea jezoensis today and make your garden stand out!
