Experience the versatility and resilience of Panicum virgatum 'Cave-in-Rock' Switch Grass. This native warm-season grass is known for its deep root system and heavy biomass growth during late spring and early summer. It adapts well to a wide range of soil conditions and is highly rated for its use in range and pasture land, wind barriers, biofuel production, and protection against overflow and inundation.
The stiff-stemmed, upright growth of Panicum virgatum 'Cave-in-Rock' makes it exceptional for wildlife nesting, brood rearing, and winter cover habitat. Its stiff straw is also highly effective as field borders and wind barriers, while its extensive root system provides excellent soil erosion control. This switchgrass variety is widely acclaimed as a conservation plant for erosion control, pasture and hayland planting, wildlife habitat, and native prairie restoration.
In recent years, there has been increasing interest in Panicum virgatum 'Cave-in-Rock' as a renewable biofuel resource. Dry matter biomass yields and other valuable information have been compiled to showcase its potential as a biomass crop for ethanol, fiber, electricity, heat production, and biosequestration of atmospheric carbon dioxide.
Switchgrass is a dominant species of the central North American tallgrass prairie and can be found in remnant prairies, native grass pastures, and naturalized along roadsides. It is widely used for soil conservation, forage production, game cover, and as an ornamental grass. Recommend a seeding rate of at least 6 lbs. PLS/Acre.
