Introducing the Magnolia X soulangeana, also known as the Saucer Magnolia. This striking plant has shiny, dark green oval-shaped leaves on sturdy stems, but it's the flowers that steal the show. They emerge dramatically on bare branches in early spring, ranging from white, pink, to purplish shades, usually darker on the outside, and whitish inside. The flowers last until just before autumn, making it a stunning addition to any garden. The Saucer Magnolia prefers full sun, deep, acid soil and flowers when young. Although sometimes damaged by frost, this large spreading shrub or small tree rewards gardeners with spectacular, large flowers up to 20cm across. Some varieties have a beautiful globular shape while others take on a cup-and-saucer shape. The 'Grace McDade' from Alabama is known to have the largest flowers, with a whopping 35cm diameter of white tinged with pinkish-purple. Order your Magnolia X soulangeana today and enjoy the beauty of spring in your garden every year.
