Introducing the stunning Magnolia chapensis, a blooming magnolia native to N and W Guangdong, NE and SE Guangxi, Guizhou, S and W Hunan, S Jiangxi, SE Yunnan [N Vietnam] and grown as an ornamental and for its high-quality timber. These trees can grow up to 15-30 meters tall and feature gray to dark brown bark and glossy deep green leaves with sparse reticulate veins. Their fragrant flowers have 6 pale yellow tepals and are borne in 2 whorls, with the outer tepals measuring about 3 x 1.5 cm and the inner tepals narrower. Fruits mature to a size of 3.5-10 cm, with ellipsoid to ovoid carpels that have a broad base and a short, curved tip. If you want to add a touch of elegance to your garden or landscape, Magnolia chapensis is the perfect tree for you.
