Ligustrum vulgare, also known as Wild Privet, Common Privet, or European Privet, is a versatile and attractive semi-evergreen or deciduous shrub native to central and southern Europe, north Africa, and southwestern Asia. It can grow up to 12 ft tall and produces small glossy black berries that are poisonous to humans but readily eaten by thrushes. The plant has been used for hedging. While it is a common plant in hedgerows and woodlands in southern England and Wales, it is also listed as an invasive species in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United States.
