Japanese Privet (Ligustrum Japonicum or Wax-leaf Ligustrum), is an evergreen shrub or small tree originally from Japan and Korea. This versatile plant grows up to 10-15 ft tall, has smooth, pale grey-brown bark, and produces glossy dark green leaves that provide an aesthetically pleasing contrast to its vibrant white, four-lobed flowers. Thriving in any non-waterlogged soil - even heavy clay soils - this plant is perfect for both sunny and semi-shady gardens. It's not just a pretty plant; the fruit is used in herbal medicine as a cardiac stimulant, diuretic, and laxative. Although it is an invasive plant in the southern US, it's also highly valued as an ornamental plant across both America and Europe.
