Discover the beauty and benefits of the Leptospermum scoparium, also known as Broom Teatree, Manuka, or Tea Tree. This evergreen shrub is native to New Zealand and southeast Australia and is most commonly found on the drier east coasts of the North Island and South Island of New Zealand, as well as in Tasmania, Victoria, and New South Wales in Australia. The fresh, pungent leaves of the Manuka plant make a fragrant and refreshing tea substitute. In fact, taste trials have shown that the tea made from this species receives higher marks than traditional China tea. The plant prefers well-drained, acid or neutral soil and can grow up to 5 meters in height. While it can tolerate strong winds, it cannot survive maritime exposure.
