Its stunning golden yellow to clear orange flowers bloom in July for 2-3 weeks and often rebloom in September. This plant species is native to the Russian Far East, northwest China, Korea, and Japan, and can also be found in meadows, mountain slopes, open woods, and scrub. Hemerocallis middendorffii is cultivated in Asia for its edible flowers, which can be eaten raw or cooked. With two varieties recognized, this plant can be easily cultivated on moist soil in a sunny location but can tolerate poor soil and partial shade. It is propagated by division or seed and is generally free from pests and diseases. Its flower buds contain about 43mg vitamin C per 100g, 983 IU vitamin A and 3.1% protein.
