Hardenbergia violacea, also known as Coral-pea, False Sarsaparilla, Purple Coral Pea, Vine Lilac or Happy Wanderer, is a vigorous evergreen climber that can grow up to 6 meters in height. It has typical pea-like flowers that are usually violet but can also come in white, pink, or other colors. The leaves are dark green, "hard," and leathery, and with prominent venation. This plant is native to Australia and is found in many habitats, making it a hardy garden plant. It has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit in the UK and can be grown in mild and coastal areas where temperatures don't fall below -5°C, either in a south or west-facing location or indoors with full daylight. The boiled leaves can produce a slightly sweet drink, and the flowers can be used to produce a grey-blue dye.
