Enkianthus campanulatus 'Palibinii' Dwarf Redvein Enkianthus is an upright, deciduous shrub native to Japan. With a height range of 6-12 feet and a width range of 4-6 feet, it is perfect for small groups or being trained into a small tree. Its foliage is layered and clustered at the tips of branches. Summer foliage is medium to bluish-green with red petioles. In May and early June, it produces small yellowish flowers with red veins and markings that are held in pendulous clusters, making it a great addition to any garden. Its fall foliage varies from yellow, orange, to red, and its quality varies with the individual. Enkianthus prefers a moist, cool, acidic soil and part shade to full sun, and should be planted in sites where the flowers can be viewed up close. It is useful for flowers and fall color, but can have spider mite problems in hot locations. Propagation is very easy, and it can be grown from seed or softwood cuttings.
