Cyrilla racemiflora, also known as the Black Titi, Common Myrtle, Leather-wood, and Swamp Titi, is a deciduous tree that grows to under 30 feet. It is native to warm temperate to tropical regions of the Americas. The plant features showy, whorled clusters of airy, white blooms, and dark-green leaves that turn rust-red in the fall. Swamp Titi is highly tolerant of flooding and grows well under full sunlight or a closed canopy. Additionally, bees produce a delicious honey from the flowers. The plant is widely used as an ornamental and is a recommended styptic for its pliable, absorbent, and astringent bark. Swamp Titi is an important browse for white-tailed deer and provides environmental protection for a variety of birds, mammals, and aquatic wildlife. The wood of Swamp Titi has little commercial value.
