The Cornus macrophylla, also known as the Bigleaf Dogwood or Large-leaf Dogwood, is a highly ornamental tree native to the Himalayas, East Asia, and Japan. Growing up to 25m tall and featuring handsome 6" leaves, smooth gray bark, and blue-black fruit, this easily grown plant thrives in any soil of good or moderate fertility, ranging from acid to shallow chalk. It can also succeed in heavy clay soils and in full sun or light shade. The flowers of this tree have a soft sweet perfume and are yellow-white and fragrant, blooming in midsummer. Once flowering has finished, small blue-black drupes form. This tree produces a beautiful display and is an excellent addition to any landscape.
