Introducing the stunning Cercis siliquastrum var. Alba White-flowered Judas Tree. This deciduous tree can grow up to 12 meters in height and 10 meters in width. It produces deep pink flowers on year-old or older growth, including the trunk, in late spring (cauliflory). The heart-shaped leaves appear shortly after the first flowers emerge and occasionally have a shallow notch at the apex. The tree produces long flat pods that hang vertically. The flowers themselves are not only beautiful but also edible with a sweetish-acid taste that makes them a perfect addition to any salad. The flower buds can also be pickled and used as a condiment. Cercis siliquastrum var. Alba is hardy to zone 6 and is not frost tender. This species can grow in nutritionally poor soil, prefers acid to neutral soils, and can grow in very alkaline soil. It can tolerate drought and requires dry or moist soil. Additionally, Cercis siliquastrum var. Alba is famous for attracting wildlife. With all of these wonderful qualities, this stunning tree promises to enhance any woodland garden, sunny edge, or any other location where it is planted.
