Arctostaphylos viscida, also known as Sticky Manzanita, Sticky Whiteleaf Manzanita, White-leaf Manzanita, or Whiteleaf Manzanita, is a treelike shrub that can reach up to 15 ft in height. Its stems are smooth or fuzzy and can be glandular. The leaves are rounded to oval, sometimes slightly toothed or with hairs along the edges, and usually dull green on both surfaces. In the flowering season, the shrub is packed heavily with densely bunching inflorescences of urn-shaped white to pale pink flowers. The fruits are shiny red or greenish-brown drupes that are between one half and one centimeter wide. It requires fire for germination and is native to California and Oregon. The Miwok of northern California used the fruits to make cider. If you are searching for a unique shrub to add to your garden, Arctostaphylos viscida is an excellent choice.
