The Acer sieboldianum 'Sode-No-Uchi', also known as Sode-no-uchi Siebold Maple, is a medium growing upright deciduous broadleaf tree, native to Japan and is popular as a bonsai. Its spread ranges from 15 to 20 feet and thrives in partial shade. The bright light green foliage stays robust throughout the season and transitions into bright yellow paired with red tones in fall. This dwarf growing plant forms a round bush, making it ideal for bonsai art in Japan. The tree's smooth bark, pale yellow flowers produced in corymbs of 10-15 sets it apart from its relatives Acer japonicum and Acer shirasawanum. It also features young shoots that are green to red and thinly covered with white hairs in the first year. Blooming in the late spring, with fruit maturation in the early autumn, this hardy tree is perfectly prepared for weather conditions as low as -20 degrees F. Notably, it's the smallest-leafed form of the species and tends to have a tight shape with minimal pruning. This slow-growing tree is a unique and delightful addition to any garden.
