Introducing Acer pensylvanicum, also known as Moose Maple, Moosewood, or Striped Maple. This deciduous tree is native to the northern forests of eastern North America and can grow up to 4.5 meters tall. In May, it blooms with delicate flowers and in July, its seeds ripen. The striking bark of this species is characterized by white stripes on green or gray-green bark. In the fall, expect a vibrant yellow color. Although small, this maple species is shade-tolerant and can persist as a small understory shrub until a gap opens up in the canopy. Then, it will grow rapidly to its full height. A perfect addition to any cool, moist forests or slopes, Moose Maple is a beautiful and resilient species that deserves a spot in your garden.
