Introducing the Acer oblongum Flying Moth Maple, also known as the Flying Moth Tree - an evergreen Asian species of maple that belongs to the soapberry family. This medium-sized tree can reach a height of approximately 35-50 ft meters and boasts smooth to wrinkled bark with unique glossy-green leaves that stay green all winter long. The leaves are opposite, ovate-lanceolate with entire margin and petiolated, and have a dark green upper side and glaucous-green underside. The young shoots are reddish bronze and finely hairy, while the flowers are small and inconspicuous, about 4mm, greenish-white, and gathered in hairy racemes. The fruits are represented by typical two-winged samaras that are wind-dispersed, about 2.5 cm long. This tree prefers moist soil and can grow in semi-shade or no shade, making it ideal for gardens, parks, and streets. In SE China, where it originates, it is planted widely as a street tree due to its handsome appearance. While it may be temperamental when planted away from its natural habitat, its evergreen foliage is still highly valued for ornamental purposes. Order your Acer oblongum Flying Moth Maple today and enjoy the beauty of this unique and elegant tree in your own garden or landscape.
