Exochorda racemosa, also known as Pearl Bush, Common Pearlbrush, or Pearlbush, is a deciduous shrub that is native to China and Japan. It blooms in spring and is a loose, upright, and early-blooming shrub with a broad, rounded shape. The flowers are white, cup-shaped, and resemble white pearls, hence its common name. Although floriferous and attractive during the spring, it is considered a somewhat nondescript shrub during the rest of the growing season. It has medium green leaves of a loose, upright habit, and can grow well in full sun or part shade. It is tough and adaptable, making it popular in Southeast areas. It typically matures to 10-15' tall and is not long-lasting. It is an ideal shrub for gardeners who want a spring-blooming plant that can add beauty to their garden.
