The Euonymus sachalinensis, also known as the Sakhalin Euonymus, is a deciduous shrub native to northeastern Asia. It grows up to 2-3 meters tall with sturdy branches and twigs that can withstand harsh weather conditions. Its leaves are pale yellow in fall and can grow up to 15 cm in length. The plant produces profuse scarlet fruit in early fall that makes it an ideal addition to any garden. The Euonymus sachalinensis prefers sun or part shade and can grow well in mixed forests or scrub environments. In addition to being an ornamental plant, its white inner bark is also used in making string shoes. This species is similar to the Euonymus oxyphyllus in the texture of its leaves, but it can be separated by its fruit with very short wings. It is a great plant for gardeners who want to add color and interest to their outdoor space and its unique features make it a conversation piece.
