Cortaderia selloana, commonly known as Pampas Grass or Uruguayan Pampas Grass, is an excellent ornamental plant that can be used as an accent or screen plant. Highly adaptable and able to grow in a wide range of environments and climates, Pampas grass produces an abundance of pinkish plumes, especially in female plants. However, it is important to note that this plant is considered a noxious weed in California due to its prolific seeding, with each plant able to produce over one million seeds during its lifetime. Despite this, the plumes are widely used for decorative purposes in flower arrangements and ornamental displays, with several cultivars available. Native to southern South America, including the Pampas region, the plant can grow up to 12 ft in dense tussocks. Its long and slender leaves are usually bluish-green in color and the flowers are produced in dense white panicles. Pampas grass is highly adaptable and can grow in a wide range of environments and climates, making it an ideal addition to any garden.
