Introducing the unique and attractive Clematis heracleifolia, also known as Bush Clematis, Hyacinth-flower Clematis, and Tube Clematis. This native Chinese plant is a subshrub or perennial herb that sprouts stems that are usually branched. Its foliage comprises of big, sturdy leaves with three well-separated parts, the middle leaflet being the largest. The plant's name is derived from the leaves as Heracleifolia for their resemblance to cow-parsnip, also known as Heracleum. The plant showcases small blue flowers, which bloom in considerable numbers in midsummer, fanning out in clusters of what appear to be small tubes. These flowers have good staying power and a pleasing scent and make for surprising cut flowers. This clematis is ideal for a semi-wild border and grows well in full sun or part shade, persisting once established. Though the plant is self-fertile, it easily accepts the advances of related species, leading to a variety of hybrids and select forms in the marketplace. So go ahead and add a touch of the unique and interesting to your garden with Clematis heracleifolia.
