Staphylea trifolia, also known as American Bladdernut or Bladdernut, is a native shrub to eastern North America and can grow up to 30 ft tall. This deciduous shrub produces dense underground root systems, making it valuable for erosion control. In the spring, it bears 1/4" long white flowers in sparse clusters that mature into 3-lobed fruit to 2". The leaves are divided into three leaflets with serrated margins and turn from bright green in the spring to dark green in the summer. This plant is suitable for light, medium, or heavy soils and grows well in acidic or alkaline conditions. It prefers moist soil and can thrive in partial shade. Overall, the Staphylea trifolia is a beautiful addition to any garden with its unique fruits and white flowers.
