Adapted to a variety of growing conditions including deep, well-drained soils on flat land and slopes in the coastal fog belt, Sequoia sempervirens, also known as Coastal Redwood or California Redwood, is a fast-growing evergreen tree that can reach heights of up to 110 meters. It has a conical crown, with horizontal to slightly drooping branches and fibrous bark that is used for making paper and insulation. This long-lived tree is also valued for its ornamental qualities and as a habitat for various wildlife species. Its sap and leaves have medicinal uses as well. Sequoia sempervirens is an iconic tree species that is widely recognized as the state tree of California.
