The Robinia pseudoacacia 'Nyriségi' is a forestry selection from Hungary. This selection produces high quality wood but also well adaptable trees for urban environments. Black locust is known for its nitrogen-fixing capabilities, making it able to grow on poor soils and an early colonizer of disturbed areas. The fragrant white flowers of the black locust are beloved by bees, making it a major honey plant in eastern US. The black locust is highly valued for its firewood, burning slowly with little visible flame or smoke and having a higher heat content than any other species that grows widely in the Eastern United States.
Overall, Robinia pseudoacacia, the black locust, is a fast-growing and tough tree with many benefits, including honey production, nitrogen-fixing abilities, and use as an ornamental and firewood tree.
