Introducing the Plumbago zeylanica, also known as Ceylon Leadwort or Doctorbush! This herbaceous plant has a pantropical distribution and is beloved for its beautiful white flowers which boast tubes as long as 28mm. Its leaves are petiolate or sessile and have ovate, lance-elliptic, or spatulate to oblanceolate blades that measure 5-9cm in length. Inflorescences are 3-15cm in length, making this plant an eye-catching addition to any garden or landscape. Plumbago zeylanica is a versatile plant, with glabrous stems that can climb, prostrate, or be erect. Carl Linnaeus originally described the paleotropical P. zeylanica and neotropical P. scandens as separate species, but they are now considered synonymous. Capsules contain reddish brown to dark brown seeds and have a length of 7.5-8mm. Visit plants.usda.gov for more information on this wonderful plant!
