Scots Pine, also known as Pinus Sylvestris, is the only pine native to northern Europe and an important tree in forestry. This evergreen coniferous tree is highly adaptable to various soils and can grow up to 25 meters in height and 1 meter in trunk diameter. The bark is thick, scaly dark grey-brown on the lower trunk, and thin, flaky and orange on the upper trunk and branches. The needles are a glaucous blue-green and are 2.5-5 cm long. The tree produces red seed cones and blackish seeds with a pale brown wing. The Scots Pine can live up to 300 years and is used for both sawn timber and pulp products. It's irregular pyramid shape in its youth makes a great Christmas tree while its open, rounded shape as it matures is perfect for landscaping.
