Scotch Pine, also known as Scots Pine or Pinus sylvestris, is a popular evergreen coniferous tree native to Europe and Asia. This adaptable tree can grow up to 25 meters tall, with a distinguished long and straight trunk topped by a rounded or flat-topped mass of foliage. The blue-green leaves (needles) are 2.5-5 cm long in fascicles of two and persistent grey basal sheath. The bark is thick, scaly dark grey-brown on the lower trunk and thin, flaky and orange on the upper trunk. Scotch Pine is widely used in forestry, with its wood being used for pulp and sawn timber products. This species is extremely adaptable, making it ideal for various soils. It is an ideal Christmas tree due to its irregular pyramid shape in its youth, which later opens into a round or flat top with widespreading branches as it matures. The tree's orangish-brown bark and fairly short, blue-green leaves make it readily identifiable. To learn more about Scotch Pine, visit our website or contact us for assistance.
