Looking for a majestic and awe-inspiring tree to add to your garden or landscape? Look no further than Pinus lambertiana, also known as the Sugar Pine. As the tallest and most massive pine tree, and with the longest cones of any conifer, this variety is sure to impress. Native to the mountains of Oregon and California in the western United States, and Baja California in northwestern Mexico, the Sugar Pine grows to a towering 40-60 meters tall, with some specimens reaching an impressive 83.45 meters. The leaves grow in fascicles of five, with a deciduous sheath, and the seeds are 1-2cm long with a wing that aids in their dispersal by wind. Even the bark of this tree is beautiful, with a distinct pattern that is pleasing to the eye. In addition, the sweet resin obtained from this tree was preferred to maple sugar by naturalist John Muir. If you are looking for a unique and impressive addition to your garden or landscape, look no further than the Sugar Pine.
