Introducing Timothy Grass, the abundant and versatile perennial grass native to most of Europe (excluding the Mediterranean region). Growing between 50-150 cm tall, with leaves up to 45 cm long and 1 cm broad, this grass is commonly grown as a hay grass due to its high fibre content when cut late. It is an essential component of standard grass hay and provides quality nutrition for horses, as well as being an excellent food source for domestic pets like rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, and degus. Timothy grass also finds use as a foodplant by some Lepidoptera, making it an essential part of the ecosystem. It requires moist soil and can grow in a variety of conditions, from semi-shade to no shade. Though its pollen is a common allergen, it has recently been used in small amounts as part of a new hay fever vaccine Grazax, which is designed to recondition the body's immune system so it no longer responds to pollen. Overall, Timothy Grass is a versatile, hearty, and critical addition to any landscape.
