Phellodendron amurense, also known as the Amur Cork Tree, is a deciduous tree native to eastern Asia and is a great addition to large open spaces in landscape design. Growing up to 12 meters tall, the Amur Cork Tree has dark green compound leaves and thick corky bark that can be used as a source of cork. The tree is also a major source of huang bai, one of the 50 fundamental herbs used in traditional Chinese medicine. However, because of its invasive nature, Phellodendron amurense is emerging as a species of concern in some regions. While recent research has shown the tree's potential use in the treatment of certain conditions, it should only be used under professional supervision. Overall, the Amur Cork Tree is a beautiful addition to any landscape, but its spreading seedlings can out-compete native species if not carefully monitored.
