Introducing the stunning Papaver orientale 'Pink', also known as the Pink Oriental Poppy. This perennial flowering plant is native to the Caucasus, northeastern Turkey, and northern Iran and boasts a natural brilliant orange-scarlet color. However, selective breeding for gardens has resulted in a range of colors, including clear true pinks and salmon pinks.

In the spring, Oriental poppies throw up a mound of finely cut hairy foliage that dies away entirely after flowering, a property that allows their survival in the summer drought of Central Asia. Late-developing plants should be planted nearby to fill developing gaps, and fresh leaves appear with autumn rains.

To cultivate, sow seeds at a depth of about one cm in light calcarous soil and in full sun or part shade when soil has thoroughly warmed, after the potential of frost has passed. Oriental Poppies do not handle transplanting well, and germination period is 10-20 days. Be careful not to over-water, and protect the plant with mulching in the winter. Cutting off the stem will produce a second flower, or keep the seed heads for a hot and acrid condiment.

With a hardiness zone of 3-8 average, Papaver orientale 'Pink' is a beautiful addition to any garden. Order now and enjoy this stunning perennial poppy! More information can be found at http://plants.usda.gov.
