Also known as the Red Lotus Tree, the Magnolia insignis is a beautiful ornamental tree that boasts fragrant red flowers in the spring and stunning evergreen foliage year-round. With a height of up to 30 meters and a diameter at breast height of up to 20 centimeters, it is a stately addition to any landscape. The narrow ovate or elliptic leaves are leathery and can grow up to 26 centimeters long and 10 centimeters wide. The flowers are fragrant and have 9-12 tepals, with the outer 3 being reddish to purplish red and obovate-oblong. This species is also used for timber. It can thrive in evergreen broad-leaved forests at elevations of 900-1200 meters and can be found in multiple regions across China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Thailand.
