Looking for an unusual and delicious addition to your garden? Look no further than Lathyrus Tuberosus, also known as the Tuberous Sweetpea. This climbing perennial plant is native to moist temperate parts of Europe and Western Asia and is particularly suited to woodland gardens, hedgerows, and banks. The plant is a trailer or weak climber, growing up to 1.2m tall, and boasts pinnate leaves with two leaflets and a branched twining tendril at the apex of the petiole. The plant's flowers are hermaphroditic and pollinated by bees. But it's the plant's edible tubers, 3 to 5 cm long, that make it truly unique. These tubers are sweet and starchy, with a delicious flavor similar to that of the sweet potato. Although yields are low, this is one plant that's truly worth growing as a taste treat. Lathyrus Tuberosus can grow in a variety of soils, from light and sandy to heavy and clay. It prefers moist soil and can be grown in semi-shade or light woodland. So why not add some Tuberous Sweetpeas to your garden this season and enjoy the flavorful and nutritious rewards they offer?
