Larix kaempferi makes a beautiful bonsai due to its fast growth, attractive young foliage, brilliant fall color, hardy cold-climate tree and easy to shape. Hardy to zones 4-6 it will not require winter protection above 15°C. Native to Japan, this tree wid planted worldwide as a forestry tree because it is tough. Sow seed in early spring, protect from the summer heat and prune in late winter. Though native to Japan, Larix kaempferi is also widely planted in other parts of the world as a forestry tree due to its strength and vigor.
