Iris douglasiana, also known as Douglas iris, is an evergreen perennial that is a common wildflower in the coastal regions of Northern and Central California and southern Oregon. This attractive plant grows from a rhizome and produces purplish-blue, white, or yellow flowers from April to June. It typically grows below 330 ft elevation in grasslands near the coast and can tolerate dry or wet soils. Its leaves are about 3/4 in wide and its stems can reach up to 31 inches tall. While it is regarded as a noxious weed in pastures, it has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
