The Euonymus Americanus, also known as Strawberry Bush, Bursting-heart, and John Baptiste-Percival, is an evergreen plant with photosynthetic stems and distinctive seed pods that burst open in mid-summer. Native to the eastern United States, this deciduous shrub grows up to 2 meters tall and thrives in almost any soil, particularly dry shaded areas. It requires shade from the midday sun and a well-drained loamy soil. While the deer seem to love grazing on the tender leaves and stems, humans should be cautious as the seeds are known to be a strong laxative and cause severe diarrhea. This species has been recorded in Ontario and as far west as Texas, making it a versatile plant that can be used for landscaping, nurseries, and more.
