Eucalyptus camaldulensis, also known as Murray Red Gum or River Redgum is a fast-growing evergreen tree that can reach up to 30 meters in height with smooth bark ranging in color from white and grey to red-brown that is shed in long ribbons. The leaves contain powerful antiseptic essential oil used all over the world to relieve coughs, colds, sore throats and infections. The wood is durable and resistant to termites, making it widely used for construction, interior finish, flooring, and more. This tree prefers well-drained soil and can grow in nutritionally poor, acid, neutral, and basic soils. It requires dry, moist or wet soil and can tolerate drought and grows straight under favorable conditions. This tree is also known for self-pruning large half trunk diameter boughs which attract wildlife that lives in the holes formed by the pruning giving the red gum a source of natural fertilization. Overall, this tree is a great investment for its versatility, durability, and natural medicinal purposes.
