The Pacific Giants Hybrids Delphinium, also known as Larkspur, is a stunning plant that blooms from late spring to late summer. Its main flowering stem is erect and can vary in size from 10cm to 2m tall, topped with a raceme of many flowers in varying colors such as purple, blue, red, yellow, and white. The flowers have five petal-like sepals that grow together to form a hollow pocket with a spur at the end, which gives it its name. Despite its beauty, all parts of this plant are toxic to humans and can cause severe digestive discomfort if ingested, as well as skin irritation. Larkspur is also a significant cause of cattle poisoning in certain areas of the United States. However, despite its toxicity, it still serves as a food plant for the larvae of certain species of Lepidoptera, including the dot moth and small angle shades. If you want to add this striking and unique plant to your garden, just be sure to handle it with care and keep it away from any children or pets that may try to eat it.
