Discover the unique Dipteronia sinensis, the only nonmaple member of the Acer family, native to central China. This deciduous tree or multistemmed bush boasts opposite and pinnate compound leaves and distinctive papery-winged fruit seeds in clusters. Its inflorescences are paniculate, terminal or axillary, and its flowers have five sepals and petals. While staminate flowers have eight stamens, bisexual flowers have a two-celled ovary. The fruit is an attractive rounded samara containing two compressed nutlets, flat, encircled by a broad wing that turns from light green to red with ripening. Dipteronia sinensis, reaching up to 10-15 meters tall, is endemic to mainland China and related to the maples. Explore its beauty and uniqueness today!
