Looking for an impressive addition to your garden? Look no further than Cucurbita pepo 'Big Max' Pumpkin! These seeds are capable of growing massive pumpkins, typically ranging from 20 to 50 pounds, but sometimes reaching up to an astonishing 300 pounds under ideal conditions. While they are not true pumpkins, these squash-type pumpkins have bright orange skin and fine-grained, yellow-orange flesh that is great for canning and freezing. The deeply ribbed and slightly roughened skin can reach a thickness of 3 to 4 inches, making them ideal for storage. However, their large size makes them difficult for culinary use, lacking the flavor and texture present in smaller varieties. The cultivar requires ample room to grow properly, and it is recommended to limit each vine to one fruit to achieve the maximum size. Best planted between two and four weeks after the average last frost, Big Max pumpkins typically become ripe 110 to 120 days after sowing. Hill planting is recommended, spacing seeds 3 to 8 cm apart, in hills of between five and eight seeds which should be thinned to leave two to three plants. Don't miss the opportunity to grow these impressive pumpkins!
